As adults, Louise Copperfield and Charlotte Hoar, react in different ways to their shared experience while at high school. Louise has emotional difficulties for which she blames herself and Charlotte has feelings of worthlessness. Louise's husband Frank is led into dubious practices that lead to disastrous outcomes. Louise is stalked and harmed. She descends into a deep depression. The journey to recovery leads her to her true love.
