Tulsa, Oklahoma, was a booming oil town in the mid-1960s. People came from all around to stay at the famous Mayo Hotel. Forty years prior to this, Tulsa was also a thriving metropolis for the black community. The Greenwood District was the center of it all, with hundreds of thriving businesses. This area was known as Black Wall Street. This story is set during a time of rebuilding for the black community after the massacre and destruction that took place in the Greenwood District in 1921. The white community was still in a state of denial. The division of the city was beginning to take shape between the North Side and South Side of Tulsa. It took "Umndeni Oqinile", Zulu for "a strong family", to overcome.
