In the hot, dry summer of 2060, a Great White Pelican scans the wildfires below him as he flies Northwards.
‘What have they done to our world?’ he asks.
Noticing his master’s distress, Erithacus, his loyal Grey Parrot, flew closer, ‘Forget them Pelecanus, they have destroyed their own homelands as well as ours, we must save ourselves now.’
‘You are right,’ Pelecanus answered thoughtfully. ‘But we must have hope that they also manage to save themselves.’
Erithacus looked confused, as he turned to ask, ‘Why?’
Sighing, Pelecanus looked across at the horizon, noticing the sight curvature of the Earth, ‘Because we share this planet and, believe it or not, we need them.’
Can the creatures of the wild save their homelands and themselves before it’s too late?
Summer Solstice is the third volume in The Last Year of the Wild adventure series which celebrates British wildlife and their determination to survive. The story follows on from the second novel, as the wild birds realise that the Human Beings are behind the destruction of the earth, yet they believe there may be ways to help the lands recover.
