Imagine not just your own immediate death, but the end of humankind --- The Vectivaria wanted to kill all the humans, which was understandable if you'd met them (either, quite honestly). Or at least, the deathdealer did, the Hindmind appearing vague on the matter. The Centrality got wind and sent an Envoy and a Consul to immediately prevent such a gross act of fore-minded destruction, because not even the humans deserved to be smeared across the local volume simply for not having evolved into much of anyone's cup of tea (a humanism). It didn't go well. And then something changed - something the humans were doing - and suddenly there was consensus: the humans must die. Or, at the very least, not live. Or live, but only to ensure they died. Or was that die, so as to... there was some confusion over the detail. Luckily, the Vectivarian in domination of the deathdealer wasn't a details guy.
