When Haley and Bobbie's magic-hating mother realized that her daughters had inherited the magic of their ancestor, the Good Witch of Christmas, La Befana, she abandoned them at a small cottage on an island off the coast of Greenland, otherwise known as the portal to the North Pole where the girls' grandfather lives. Despite growing up in a holiday paradise, the sisters decided to leave the realm of magic holiday folk behind and head to a small town in Maryland in search of a 'normal' life.
