Tess of the D'Urbervilles is a classic novel by Thomas Hardy that tells the story of Tess, a young woman from a poor family in rural England. Tess is sent to work for the wealthy D'Urberville family, where she meets and falls in love with their son, Alec. However, Alec takes advantage of Tess and she becomes pregnant. After the child dies, Tess leaves to start a new life and meets another man, Angel Clare, whom she falls in love with and marries. However, when Angel learns about Tess's past, he rejects her, causing Tess to spiral into despair. The novel explores themes of love, class, morality, and the struggle of women in Victorian society.A young member of the band turned her head at the exclamation. She was a fine and handsome girl--not handsomer than some others, possibly--but her mobile peony mouth and large innocent eyes added eloquence to colour and shape. She wore a red ribbon in her hair, and was the only one of the white company who could boast of such a pronounced adornment. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
