understanding Buddhism
By Venerable Master Chin Kung
Buddhism is the most perfect and complete education ever taught by Shakyamuni Buddha for all beings in the nine Dharma Realms.
In his 49 years of teachings of sutras, the contents which Shakyamuni Buddha taught and explained were.about the truth of the "Universe and Life". "Life" denotes us while "Universe" denotes our living environment.
Those who are awakened are called Buddhas and Bodhisattvas and those who are not awakened are called ordinary people.
Practicing is to rectify all our incorrect views, perceptions, speeches and actions in terms of the Universe and Life.
The objectives of practicing Buddhism are to become awakened, not confused; have proper views and understanding, and not be deluded or ignorant; have a pure mind, not a polluted one. We can reach these goals by practicing "The Three Learnings".
The foundation of practicing relies on "The Three Conditions". Interacting with others and dealing with objects and issues, we rely on "The Six Principles of Harmony" and "The Six Paramitas". Focusing our mind to return to the Pure Land, we rely on "The Ten Vows of Universal Worthy Bodhisattva". The teachings of the Buddha are thus complete.
