Was Andy Warhol (1928-87) an intellectual or a comics reader? In any case, he loved books. From his student days onward, he was fascinated by the medium of print. Starting out with illustrations for famous novels by the likes of Truman Capote and Katherine Anne Porter, he became a successful graphic designer who then also created playful thematic booklets that he would hand out to New York's fashion scene as promotional gifts. He designed covers for large publishing companies and made silkscreens and lithographs for the covers of poetry books written by author friends. In his own books he documented the film and photographic work done at his Factory. Warhol also blasted apart the usual genres of literature by having sound recordings transcribed and published. Including a complete bibliography, this fascinating and fresh volume is the first substantial presentation of Warhol's important innovations in printed books. | Reading Andy Warhol by Nina Schleif, Hardcover | Indigo Chapters
