This giftable book will collect "love letters" to Black women written by celebrites and non-celebs alike, complete with a long introduction by Elle Duncan. The letters will sometimes be to a mother, aunt, or daughter –or sometimes the letters will be to an admired person from history, such as Ruby Bridges, Toni Morrison, or Kamala Harris. Love Letters to Black Women will be a tribute to the unmatched spirit and incalculable strength of the Black woman. It's an opportunity to highlight the dynamic of Black women through the broad spectrum of relationships. Imagine Amanda Gorman, the first National Youth Poet Laureate, writing a letter to Maya Angelou; Bernice King writes a letter to her mother Coretta; and Dwyane Wade's testimony to his daughter Zaya about their journey through gender identity. History has shown that all too often Black women and their contributions are hidden; understood but still unstated. Love Letters to Black Women is a commemoration, in real time, of the beautiful complexities that come within this sorority and a celebration of what's to come.
