On his way home to NYC from a business trip to Caracas, Venezuela Axe is mistakenly stopped by the police and thrown into jail with only the clothes on his back, an empty notebook and pen. In order to maintain his sanity in a 6' x 10' cell with three other prisoners-- some self-confessed murderers --he beginsto write to his lover. He writes everyday describing his experience: his developing relationships with the other prisoners -- some terrifying, some helpful; his emotional and mental rollercoaster and the daily happenings in this alternative reality. He brings the reader inside this jail, inside his cell with men lying side by side on a cold, hard stone floor, using a common toilet, bargaining for every necessity, never knowing if the next moment will bring injury, death or laughter. You will see the faces of these prisoners, hear the clanging of the metal dishes in the mess hall, the screams in the middle of the night, the music, the smell of food cooking and the laughter of children and the cries of women during the once a month visiting day. These letters bring to life Axe's terror, determination, frustration and his love for Apple -- "the love of his life." His unconditional love is a joy to behold, sometimes touching, sometimes desperate, sometimes funny, but always very human.
