This is serious wine, with ripe plummy fruit and a suggestion of black tea scented with bergamot, anise and earth. The texture has heft, with abundant extract and firm tannins, although there is nothing overly heavy or astringent here. The grapes are from very old vines planted on the iron-rich 'terres rouges' soils at the base of Bonnes Mares. This used to be blended into the regular premier cru bottling, but recently winemaker Veronique Boss-Drouhin has been bottling it separately. Drinking window: 2030-2060. Score - 94.
