In Praise of Thought is Elizabeth Haddad's debut collection of poetry. Troubled by an increasingly algorithmic world, Haddad set out to examine our internet poetically by turning inward, to the core of what it means to be alive. The poems are arranged as a stream of consciousness between the tangible and the virtual, conjuring the most human parts of the self (memory, rejection, identity, personal history, fear), in attempt to combat the sense of loss that can occur in virtual existence (of autonomy, privacy, even reputation). In Praise of Thought is poetry in response to technology, but more powerfully, in praise of the human experience.
With a stunning book design by Visnja Brdar, unexpected color and undulating graphics will draw the reader through, in hopes to inspire and question: What does it mean for you to be alive, right now?
