The year 990 on this wine's label refers to the feudal citadel of Fitou, which marked the border between the kingdoms of France and Aragon. The wine itself is a blend of Carignan (fermented separately using carbonic maceration) and Grenache. The combo is aged in oak for 12 months to create a plush, darkly fruity wine that'll pair well with grilled burgers.
