Errázuriz KAI Carmenère 2018

The first version of Kai was the 2005, and the goal has always been to have the best selection of carmenere available in Errázuriz's own vineyards in the Aconcagua Valley. The vineyard chosen was the Max V with a bit from Max II, both planted in the mid-1990s. The herbal and spicy expression of the carmenere is clearly felt, although it's always accompanied by a delicious layer of fresh fruit. There's energy in this wine and a very clear varietal expression, but it also has a lot of aging potential. A very good version of one of the best carmeneres in Chile, and which has been radically renovated in the last three vintages to accentuate the red fruit and the freshness, without abusing extraction or ripeness.
