Fantasy literature owes much of its imaginative power to myth, legend and folklore, often as recorded in European medieval literature. Some of the most successful texts of contemporary fantasy literature have turned to the 'Celtic' tradition, drawing inspiration from medieval Irish and Welsh mythological texts.
