Shrinking DOD budgets, coupled with increasing software demands, have brought close attention to DOD's general inability to accurately estimate software costs for software-intensive systems. The use of uncalibrated or improperly calibrated software cost models is a significant source of these inaccurate cost estimates. This research effort focused on the calibration and validation of CHECKPOINT Version 2.3.1, a computerized software cost estimating tool, to the USAF Electronic Systems Center (ESC) software database.
