Kari Silverman, a Manhattan attorney, has stared at her deceased Gramma Sera's belongings for over a week. Remembering her grandmother's passion for things spiritual, she thinks that she is just not into this metaphysical stuff. She lifts a box to move it and the bottom falls apart scattering gemstone jewelry, crystals, tarot decks and a weather-beaten journal onto her area rug. She picks up the journal, a note addressed to her in her grandmother's handwriting, falls out of the journal onto her dark wood floor. The note asks Kari to keep an open mind and read the journal. Kari wipes a fallen tear and begins to read about Gramma Sera's strange and magical life and the inspiring messages from the remarkable Phoenix and Sedona, Arizona women that she interviewed for a book she was writing to empower women.
