In June 2019, Pauli Löija, who was immobile due to pain, was taken by ambulance to hospital where metastases of cancer were found in his spine. A week later, the diagnosis was revealed: multiple myeloma, an incurable plasma cell cancer.
Heavy cancer treatments were started immediately and at the end of the year a stem cell transplant was performed, followed by continued drug treatments. The doctor did not promise many years of life, but despite this, a positive attitude has carried Pauli forward, one day at a time.
Pauli’s story is an account of life with a serious illness. It includes lots of joys, friends, hobbies, cancer treatments, water damage at home and a corona pandemic. Despite the adversity, he has found beautiful and joyful things in every day. Life goes on!
