In Adult Conversations , I use my life as an example of how God changed my path and opened my mind to receive and apply the concept of true and effective communication: "Adult." For example, my wife has a strong "Parent" (describing the type of communication that relies on dictation and authority) and this often leads to arguments. The arguments were creating a communication barrier between us because a "Parent" can't communicate effectively with an "Adult" but does communicate perfectly with a "Child" (describing the emotional, submissive communicator). Even though we love each other, we spent more time arguing than showing affection. Our children were witnessing this and in return beginning to learn ineffective means of communicating. Then one day, I remembered a communications tool I read about a long time ago and started to apply it in my daily life. All future conversations I had with my wife used this tool: communicating in our "Adult" and working through the communication process with effective listening and reacting. After my wife got the hang of the concept, I passed it on to my children and every person I believed needed it. My desire is that through my stories, the concept can be passed on and applied in your daily life. Nothing comes easily. Using this communication tool takes time and patience. www.RobertDCollinsSr.com
