ACONITE Queen of Poisons Based on a True Story The adventures of Dr. Josephine Reva, a first woman doctor in Brooklyn, who moonlights as a detective to solve paradoxical "poison cure" crimes. It's the Roaring 20's in New York, and a feisty orphan rises from the slums to become a doctor. Josephine Reva, Homeopath M.D. hangs her shingle in Brooklyn as the area's first "Lady Doctor". Her loyalty to the Hippocratic Oath will soon be tested under Prohibition, but Josephine has even graver concerns. She campaigning for women's equality in medicine and she's not ready to give up her botanical poison cures. Murder intrudes when a man is found dead at the docks from Aconite, a purple flower known as the "Queen of Poisons." Aconite is also Josephine's homeopathic remedy, and she realizes she's being framed. Chief Detective John O'Malley is a hard-boiled cop who believes poison is a "woman's weapon." He suspects Josephine, and the two begin a cat and mouse chase along the killer's trail. With help from her devoted patients, Josephine goes undercover as a flapper to spy on suspicious bootleggers, doctors and others. Pulling Josephine out of trouble is Dominick, her brawny and handsome chauffeur with a mysterious World War past. Complications arise when Josephine falls for a debonair suspect. Can Josephine unmask the murderer? Can she unravel her own secrets to follow her heart and her ambition?
