Abby's story is a testament to the power of kindness, respect and love. Her journey evokes a myriad of emotions by touching on struggles she encountered in life. The main message is to share that it only takes one person to help change someone's life. The book is written in couplets with an uplifting tone. I, the Author, encountered Abby at an animal shelter in Chicago, a stray dog having endured a harsh midwestern winter. She clearly suffered from neglect and abuse, leaving her fearful and reclusive. Upon seeing her, I instantly knew that this frail 10-pound dog deserved a new beginning, and a bath and a warm meal! Initially, Abby resided with my elderly parents where she formed a strong connection with my father, and he found renewed purpose in caring for her. Abby was provided with a secure and affectionate environment where she learned to trust humans again. After the death of my parents, Abby moved into my home with my husband, Michael, me, and a puppy named Lula. Abby continued to flourish and transformed into a confident and expressive dog. She became more demonstrative and vocal, which we labeled her 'big dog bark.' Abby may be small, but she has a big attitude. She's not bossy, she's got Abbytude!
