The Epistle to the Hebrews is a most unique Epistle. To me, it is the queen of all the Epistles!
My intention is not to diminish the merits of the other Epistles: each one was written for specific purposes and they were all inspired by the Holy Spirit.
But Hebrews is really different.
To begin with, it is anonymous – at least to us, modern-day readers. But its original Hebrew audience surely knew who the author was!
Out of humility, its human author must have remained backstage in order to better project into the spotlight the glorious Person of Jesus!
Indeed, this Epistle establishes Jesus's superiority over Angels and Moses.
It demonstrates the superiority of the New Covenant over the Old.
But, most importantly, it demonstrates by a number of arguments how Jesus's High Priesthood in the Heavenly Tabernacle surpasses that of the Levitical Order in permanence, grandeur, glory and majesty!
The author's intention was to make his Hebrew readers transition from the obsolete Old Levitical Covenant to the much better New Covenant with - as its eternal High Priest according to the Order of Melchizedek - Jesus Christ!
