This novella is about an English girl, born in the early sixties, who has Bi-polar disorder, which isn’t diagnosed until she’s a teenager when her parents are forced to section her in a mental hospital in Paris where they are living. There she marries her doctor and has a son, Michael. This is followed by another son but, after her first-born is killed in a terrible road accident, she goes completely to pieces. But then, when she has recovered after a couple of years and her husband has gone to a conference, she decides to go out and have some fun. So she goes to a local disco to dance and there she meets a handsome Muslim who sweeps her off her feet. Some time later she asks her husband for a divorce, not realising what she’s getting into, and her life spirals out of control again. This is Richard Sloane’s 23rd published work.
