Spring. Let battle commence. A yearly battle between father and the family lawnmower. A machine, inherited from the previous owner of the house, left with instructions to be put out with the rubbish. Thoughts of tinkering with a 'not built like this anymore' machine and restoring it to its former glory was a challenge too great to miss. Vision of father and son, maybe daughter too, oiling, greasing, fine tuning and passing tools to each other with 'operating theatre' precision. A real family achievement in the making. Fast forward. Reality check. Small oversight of daily demands. A 9 - 5 job, two school aged children, extra curricular activities. Thank goodness for Autumn. However, Dad had not succeeded with either the little push along mower or the inherited one. Could daughter Beth deny him the huge sense of achievement as he raises his hand in triumph (whenever that may be).
