Commitment to Reducing Single-use Plastic

UNIQLO has implemented four sustainability measures to help cut the waste

Around 8 million metric tons of plastic debris enters the oceans every year. Around 80% of that debris comes from towns and cities, so it is important for them all to consume less single-use plastic. UNIQLO has implemented four sustainability measures to help cut this waste.

From 2019, plastic shopping bags have been replaced with bags made from recycled paper or paper in line with Fast Retailing Group's procurement policy.

From 2019, UNIQLO has started eliminating the use of plastic in packaging of certain items.

Plastic use has been reduced in packaging for slippers, sunglasses and items for kids. Plastic packaging for other products has also been reduced to a bare minimum.

From September 2019, all UNIQLO stores worldwide will begin selling reusable bag with the goal of reducing the use of traditional shopping bags, and making effective use of resources, such as paper.

To promote the use of reusable bags, all UNIQLO stores in select markets will begin charging for paper shopping bags from September 2019*.
