Aritzia - Retail in Action

Aritzia is committed to lowering its impact on climate, water, and biodiversity, and driving continuous improvement in environmental performance across their product and supply chain.

They do this through:

Responsible Cashmere - Cashmere is an important fibre in the raw material mix, and is essential to their Everyday Luxury offering. To source the cashmere more ethically, Aritzia has become a member of The Good Cashmere Standard®, an independent standard for responsible cashmere developed by the Aid by Trade Foundation (AbTF). The standard was created to improve the welfare of cashmere goats, with respect to the Five Freedoms, as well as aiming to improve the economic, social and ecological conditions of cashmere farmers, their families and communities in Inner Mongolia.

Responsible Wool - Wool is a naturally renewable and biodegradable material that’s constructed to last, providing unparalleled warmth and luxurious softness. Aritzia acknowledges that the quality of wool they use is as important as the animal welfare standards and land management practices — which is why they source wool certified to the Responsible Wool Standard (RWS). The RWS certifies wool farmers, ensuring that wool comes from farms with a progressive land management approach and from sheep that have been treated responsibly.

Recycled Materials - Sourcing recycled materials reduces their carbon footprint and puts waste back into use. Aritzia sources recycled polyester and recycled polyamide, which are both certified by the Global Recycled Standard (GRS). They also use recycled materials certified to the Recycled Claim Standard (RCS). As agricultural production can have a significant impact on biodiversity and the climate, they source recycled wool, cashmere, cotton and down as well.

Reducing Energy Use:

Aritzia also makes an effort to reduce energy consumption in their Support Offices, Boutiques and Distribution Centres by adopting energy efficient practices and through upgrading inefficient infrastructure. Today, energy efficient LEDs make up 100% of their lighting across their Boutiques and they are steadily increasing adoption in their owned Distribution Centres and Vancouver Support Campus as well.
